On-Page Optimisation

The aim of search engine optimisation is to maximise the perceived relevance of a particular page for a particular search.

SEO can be roughly divided between on-page and off-page factors, this section deals with the on-page/on-site ones and is divided into the following sub-categories:

  • Keywords - how and where to choose them.

  • Title - how to craft this important tag.

  • Meta Tags - which ones are worth using.

  • Content - why content is important.

  • Structure - good and bad ones.

  • Images - how to make the most of them.

Recently most of the focus in SEO has been on off-page factors such as links, far too much so in my opinion.

A properly crafted website with original content and a structure that makes the most of internal linkage can go a long way to minimise over-dependence on third-party links, and with increasing scrutiny being applied to them, it makes sense to do so.
