Page Title

The Title is a major factor in determining page relevancy by both search engines and human viewers so merits some thought to its crafting.

While containing whatever keyword or phrase the page is targeting it should also appeal to the reader much like a newspaper headline tries to do.

Interestingly a lot of online newspapers now use different headlines than in their print versions, "Reds sink Blues' may mean something to the reader but not yet to an algorithm, while "Liverpool goals sink Chelsea hopes" caters to both.

For those who don't want their DMOZ/Yahoo! directory title appearing in the search engine results there are now two metatags that can be used, META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOODP", and for Yahoo! META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOYDIR".
